Serving Christ at The Oaks with World Impact

Tom Lorson was born on December 12, 1964 in San Bernardino, CA and was raised in nearby Cherry Valley.  His wife Linda was born September 10th, 1966 in Los Angeles, CA.  Both Tom and Linda accepted Christ at a young age, but renewed their commitments to the Lord during high school.  Tom and Linda met at a Campus Life for Christ meeting and were married on November 14, 1983.  They have two children, Daniel and Alisha, who were both born on January 8th, two years apart.

Tom remembers the first time he became interested in missions was during a short-term trip to Mexico when he was 13 years old.  Tom realized from this experience that “it is people, not possessions, that are of greatest value.”  Many years down the road, the Lorsons began their involvement in ministry as counselors with Campus Life for Christ and then became active in their children’s AWANAS program.  “I have always enjoyed working with kids and seeing them grow in the Lord,” Tom commented about his involvement in AWANAS.

The Lorsons first heard of a staff opening at The Oaks through a neighbor, who knew of the Lorsons passion for ministry.  One year after talking to their neighbor the Lorsons moved to The Oaks so Tom could begin his work as the primary grounds director.  Prior to this, however, the Lorsons had to raise their support, and with the help of the YCC family they were able to begin their work at The Oaks in 1995.  Tom’s parents, Butch and Donna Lorson, and Tom’s brother John and sister-in-law DeAnna, all attend YCC.

Since 1995, Tom has been promoted to Primary Host of the camp.  His main job is in guest relations, which includes setting up and taking down meeting rooms, operating sound equipment, running adventure elements such as archery and rock climbing, and many more responsibilities.  “We love being apart of a community that provides a Christ experience for people of all cultures, especially those from the inner-city,” said Tom.
