Dick and Mary Martin were born and raised in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota. Dick’s birthday is July 28, 1961 and Mary’s is November 21, 1962. Both Dick and Mary were fortunate enough to grow up in Christian households and were raised going to Church. Dick accepted Christ as a young boy and Mary as a high school. They both made a commitment to serve Christ as young adults. The Martins were married on June 20, 1987 and now have three children, Ben (15), Kara (12), and Joel (4).
The Martins currently serve in Indonesia with Mission Aviation Fellowship as the Chief of Maintenance in Papua. The Martins have served in Papua since 1992 and Dick has been Chief of Maintenance since 2003. To prepare him for his current job, Dick has undergone numerous training opportunities. Specifically, he has attended Dunwoody Institute, Northwestern College, Minneapolis Technical Institute, and more recently he has obtained his B.S. in Christian Leadership from Azusa Pacific University.
The Martins were introduced to YCC through Dick’s sister, Beck Miller, and the rest of her family. The Martins lived in Redlands in 2002-2003 while on sabbatical and were able to attend YCC at that time. “We are forever grateful for your years of prayer and financial support. You have blessed us richly with your financial support," Mary wrote in a recent prayer letter to YCC.
The Martins’ life verse is found in Micah 6:8, which says, “He has shown thee O man what is good and what the Lord requires of thee, but to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God.” They also find great encouragement in Psalm 90:17 and Psalm 92:4.
