Ricky Gordon was born on June 20, 1952 in Dothan, Alabama.  Sarah Gordon was also born in Dothan, Alabama one year earlier on September 23, 1951.  Both Sarah and Ricky accepted Christ at the age of eight and grew up knowing about the Lord, but made their real commitment to Christ during their early 20’s.  The Gordons were married on September 23, 1973.

Ricky went on to receive his B.A. in speech and English, as well as his M.A. in speech communication and in theology from Auburn University.  Sarah has her B.S. in physical therapy and her M.A. in theology from the Christian Life School of Theology.

The Gordons first began their ministry in Japan on their way to India.  However, due to unrest in the country, they were unable to enter India and decided to stay and help the missionaries in Japan for several months.  After those months were finished, the Gordons applied for a missionary visa and have now been working in Japan for over 20 years.  Ricky is currently serving as the pastor for Living Way Christian Fellowship in Shizuoka and Sarah is the director of Ai no Kesshin (Loving Decisions), a ministry to mothers and children in crisis started by Bill and Danece Stapleton.

The Gordons became acquainted with YCC through the Stapletons.  For several years Danece has led short-term teams from YCC to Japan to aid the Gordons in their ministry. “We are grateful to YCC for all your support and help over the last several years.  We have been greatly blessed through the teams that come to help us evangelize in the summer and through your prayer and financial support,” said Sarah. “Our hope is to experience a move of God in Japan where many people come to know Him and those who have encountered Jesus will return to Him.

The Gordons continue their ministry today with the help of many people, including their ten children, five of whom are theirs by birth and five of whom are adopted.  They also live with their interpreter, Ako Suzuki and her daughter, Emma.  A favorite verse shared by the Gordons is Micah 6:8, “He has shown you O man what is good and what the Lord requires of you, but to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God.”
